Introduction:

On this privately guided tour we will explore the Unesco Monuments of Hungary
with a private local guide. During your time in Hungary most of your time will
be spent in Budapest as it is the central point to the country. After arriving
to Budapest we will continue to the Western Region of the country. First
stopping in Gyor, which is one of the most important towns in northwest
Hungary, the capital of Gyor-Moson-Sopron county. Here you will get a chance to
see the Baroque centre. Then we will move on to Herend to visit its Porcelain
Factory. Ending this day on the Beautiful shores of Lake Balaton.
The
next day we will take a ferry across the Southern Coastline of Szantod to reach
Pecs. Pecs entered the UNESCO World Heritage list in the year 2000 and is
now nominated for the European Capital of Culture in 2010. In the 4th century, a
remarkable series of decorated tombs were constructed in the cemetery of the
Roman provincial town of Sopianae (modern Pécs). These are important both
structurally and architecturally, since they were built as underground burial
chambers with memorial chapels above the ground. The tombs are important also in
artistic terms, since they are richly decorated with murals of outstanding
quality depicting Christian themes.
Then
we will explore Budapest and take an excursion to Szechenvi. Budapest,
including the Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter and Andrássy Avenue
are all included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Then we will take a walk
through the narrow streets of Szechenvi passing by the Baroque houses and visit
to the unique Marzipan Museum.
We
will continue the tour the following day to the Tokaj wine region. Tokaj
has a long tradition of making wine due to the fact it has been blessed with the
perfect climate. Wineries, vineyards and small traditional towns are dotted
through the region. Here you will have the opportunity to sample the famous
wine. As well as the next day when we will explore Hungary's other famous wine
region; Eger, before heading back to Budapest.
